Indonesia – by Alex

Sunday, November 11th, 2007
This is me jumping off the boat in the Riau Islands, which is in Indonesia. At first I was so scared I wouldn’t put my foot on the railing but then Nicola jumped off so I decided to do it too. When we were in Indonesia we got struck by lightening. Right now some people are trying to fix the lightening damage. We lost some of our electronics, and we had to steer the boat aswell as our autohelm was damaged. I am now quite good at steering.

Indonesia – by Nicky

Sunday, November 11th, 2007
For the last few months we have been in Indonesia. One of the places where we anchored I took a picture of my best toy Snowy. She sleeps with me at night and is very cuddly. I even took her to Pangkil, a private island, where we stayed for four days with four other families. I met a friend called Annie and on the last night we were there, my sister and I had a sleepover with her. It was great fun because my mummy let us talk after lights out for 10 minutes. At Pangkil we also had a midnight swim, a treasure hunt, and we went fishing. It was so much fun. I did not catch anything but Annie did.

Phuket, Singapore and Tioman

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007
After nearly 15 months at sea we are taking a two month break with a trip to the UK and Canada to catch up with friends and family and to avoid what is not the best cruising weather in Asia. The boat is bedded down in Sebana Cove just across from Singapore in southern Malaysia following a pleasant two weeks cruising around the Tioman Group of Islands (east coast Malaysia). The coming break has caused us to reflect on the trip so far. Many of our friends have asked us some interesting questions – what do you do all day? do you get bored? has the trip been as we expected? what have been the highlights? what have been the challenges? how long do you spend at sea? and how have the kids adapted to their new life?

Andamans, Similans and Surins

Saturday, April 28th, 2007
Curry puffs and samosas with gin and tonic sundowners; catch of the day – fresh yellow fin tuna sushi, seared wahoo steaks or squid tempura; dolphins, the elusive dugong, manta rays over 3 meters in diameter, sail fish over 2 meters long and even a whale; towns steeped in history from the British in the 1850s, through India’s fight for independence to the Japanese occupation; tribes lost in time; and stunning tropical islands with serene sandy beaches, tropical forests right down to the waters edge and crystal clear aquamarine waters – welcome to the Andamans.

Andamans, Similans and Surins – by Nicola

Saturday, April 28th, 2007
In the Similans in Thailand, our friends Daniel and Jenna had a boat called Shayile and two turtles came up and swam round the boat and we snorkelled with the turtle. It was very friendly and we could touch it. The shell felt hard and smooth like it had been laying in the water all day long.

Andamans, Similans and Surins – by Alex

Saturday, April 28th, 2007
In Similan Islands in Thailand a green turtle came close to Shayile (our friends’ boat) and we could feed the turtle and swim with it. The turtle was very friendly – we touched it. In the Similans we also climbed Sail Rock and saw two goats climbing it but not following the path!

Around Phuket

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007
It is February 07 and Chinese New Year is upon us – what happened to Christmas, New Year and January! Currently we are at anchor at the lovely Nai Harn beach, in the south of Phuket, relaxing, catching up with other cruising families and making preparations for our next leg to the Indian Andaman Islands, after two wonderful but hectic months of visitors.

Langkawi to Phuket – by Alex

Monday, December 18th, 2006
This is Hole in the Wall in Langkawi. We went eagle feeding with chicken skins. Some other tourists fed them bread but they didn’t like that. One big eagle swooped down and got it but our picture of that was out of focus because it went too fast.
