Philippines – Typhoon

Four weeks into our trip we experienced our first typhoon! Delaying our departure from Puerto Galera (it is a great natural typhoon shelter) we got a direct hit by typhoon Chanchu – the first for decades by all accounts. We were lucky to get on a very sheltered PG Yacht Club mooring a couple of days ahead which gave us plenty of time to prepare although being close to the shore (20 metres) required using a stern line which felt very strange as the boat could not swing naturally on the mooring and all the mooring lines took a huge strain.

Manila to Puerto Galera – by Alex

  This is me steering Zippy our new dingy. She is very fast with her motor although I like paddling her too. We have also got two Sea Kayaks called Splish and Splosh (they are twins so you cannot tell the difference). When you go in the Kayaks you get a wet bottom. I like jumping off the back of them into the sea.

Manila to Puerto Galera – by Nicola

This is Zippy our new dingy with me and Daddy. I can now steer zippy. We are now in Puerto Galera in the Philippines. We have been snorkelling a lot and have seen lots of fish. My favourite fish is a white and yellow stripy diamond shaped fish. We have seen some spikey sea urchins and have been on a banca (local boat). Yesterday (12 May 06) we had our first typhoon. It rained a lot and it was a big storm with lots of wind.

  We are finally starting to relax and get into cruising mode now. However, this last few weeks has included a lot that is new to us, so we are still on a steep learning curve…
